I have put off washing my makeup brushes for weeks and although I detest using dirty brushes, finding the motivation to spend an hour cleaning them is not easy. After having a mini clear out I found a *Sephora Solid Brush Cleaner that I hadn’t used yet and to be honest, completely forgot I had. This was the perfect excuse to wash my brushes and I didn’t hesitate to start the long process.
Admittedly I was sceptical about using a solid cleaner because I have used a similar product in the past and I was less than impressed with the results. I also found I had to use nearly all of the product in one session. Hence a liquid form has always been a better option for me.
Sephora products have been giving me life lately so I was curious how this was going to go. On first impressions the product really does smell amazing. It has a strong, fresh aroma with subtle sweet hints.. undoubtedly the best smelling brush cleaner I have come across so far. I was pretty impressed by this alone. Another huge and unexpected thumbs up for me was the quantity of product included, 1.1 oz to be exact which later proved to be an amount that will last. Already a million times better than the previous solid cleaner (but then I suppose that’s not too difficult to achieve). Sephora not only sell this reasonably sized cleaner, but they also kindly include a silicone pad which makes this product ideal for travel.
I gave the cleaner a tough run from the get go and to be honest, I was impressed. The soap foamed up effortlessly and the formula created a perfect softness that was greatly appreciated. This was most likely due to the included ingredient of argan oil. My brushes have been well and truly treated and I’m far to excited about having clean brushes again. I’m not the only one right?
Before and After
I will say that my slightly larger and denser brushes needed extra assistance from a drop of baby shampoo. Is this cheating? Possibly, but I put this down to how much I had abandoned the brushes and they were really bulked up with layers of all sorts of foundations, gross I know.
The silicone pad is far better used for smaller brushes, but regardless I can’t step away from using my much loved *Real Techniques Cleansing Palette as it’s so handy to use. That’s not to say that the included pad isn’t useful.
Overall I’d happily keep using this solid brush cleaner and I’d recommend any other brush hoarder (like myself) to atleast give it a go. I’d love to know your thoughts.
