Wouldn’t life be easier if we didn’t have to wash our make up brushes and spend hours doing so? The StylPro Makeup Brush Cleaner and Dryer was invented to help you reduce that time and a little over year ago I bought it to try it out.
This product didn’t seem too popular at the time of my purchase, but over the last couple months I have seen numerous Facebook discussions and forum chats talking about it. Does it work? Is it worth the £40 pricetag? Opinions are very mixed and I thought this would be the perfect time to write my own post and share my opinion.
So what does the StylPro actually do? Well it’s a product that is aimed to reduce time and stress when it comes to washing your makeup brushes. Sounds ideal right? What’s even better is this machine supposedly dries your make up brushes too. No more slaving away for a couple of hours to then have to wait all night for your well-used brushes to dry. I was totally sucked in by this concept. I mean who wouldn’t be?
The box includes:
A clear bowl with seal and guard
8 silicone collars of different sizes
The StylPro device
An attachment spindle
So arguably quite a bit for your buck.
Now I totally get that this is an exciting and really useful product, but my thoughts are quite mixed and for good reason. After the first two uses, I found myself disappointed with a less than useful, broken product that barely moved regardless of multiple battery changes. I ended up making a complaint (which I very rarely do) and was given a replacement free of charge. As the product wasn’t too known at the time I presumed this was possibly just a “bad egg” or a result of unexpected issues. I held no grudges.
To use the StylPro at it’s full potential you simply fill the bowl with a small amount of brush cleaner fluid and a little water, dip your attached brush into the solution a couple of times and start spinning. This is how the cleaning process takes place.. supposedly. After the brush head is fully clean, you lift out of the water and spin until dry. It’s simple but not quite effective as it states on the box.
The drying part works a treat although more delicate brushes may become misshapen and if you have splurged on your brushes, you may not want to risk it. For bulkier brushes however, it’s not too bad. The cleaning element is an absolute struggle and a huge disappointment every time (atleast it has been for me). Unless you repeat the process numerous of times and keep changing the water, that brush will never be rid of old product build up. Foundation in particular doesn’t stand a chance of disappearing.
Now days I use the Real Techniques Cleansing Palette to get a good scrub and purely use the StylPro for its drying abilities. Still a lengthy process, but atleast there’s no over night drying time. After a while I also find that the device starts to lag, which may well be a fault but as it’s my second kit I can’t help but feel let down by this.
If you ask me whether it was worth the money, I’d say no. I wouldn’t have purchased the product if I had a trial period and honestly I feel that the price is a little steep. That being said, perhaps you will have better luck than me and I really hope you do.
