I’ve never experienced anything quite like The Ritz (London) and no I’m not on about the crackers, although I do love them too. With my mums birthday being very close to my wedding I knew I wanted to treat her a little early. My parents have been amazing with wedding help and I desperately wanted mum to feel truly appreciated. The Ritz was the perfect treat and one that you wouldn’t book often unless you are very well paid in your job.
I opted for the afternoon tea package which included a selection of posh sandwiches, pastries and scones all of course served with tea which comes in a variety of flavours. Although the food is lovely and very Instagram worthy, it’s the atmosphere that makes for ultimate indulgence. The rooms are fit for royalty with their marble and gold accents, it truly is beautiful. Admittedly I felt a little like Eliza Dolittle from My Fair Lady (if you have the slightest clue what I’m going on about).
You really are pampered as soon as you enter the building. Very well dressed staff are there to wait on you hand and foot, they will refill your tea and food trays, keep you stocked with clean plates and take your photo if you ask them nicely. I can imagine this is how the royal family feel at times although I wasn’t looking nearly as regal.
Dress code was a big worry for me. Of course a location this prestigious has a dress code where men have to wear jackets and jeans will rule out any possibility of entry. Yes it’s a little posh, but if you are going to splurge for afternoon tea (yes it is a splurge) then you might as well look the part. Don’t worry there’s no need for a ball gown but keep in mind the term “smart yet casual”. I’m not too close to London and I didn’t feel comfortable travelling on a lengthy train ride, hopping on tubes and walking in the rain in a fancy gown. I opted for smart floral trousers and a flowy top. I didn’t feel out of place with this decision but a dress is more common. Heels are also not essential which is just as well because I can barely walk in them.
Here are a few ideas
The whole experience was something I will never forget. It was the ultimate treat for mum and myself and it wasn’t rushed either. It’s pricey but if you’re only going to do it once, make it count. Plus, how often do you see a restroom like this?
