Everything You Need To Know About Skincare

January 5, 2018 4 Comments

I don’t know about you, but when I first started to explore skincare products I found it pretty overwhelming. With so many products from cleansers, removers, toners, masks and all the other jazz that goes with it, it’s a little confusing to say the least. So what is everything for? Do I need to use every product on a daily basis? Have I got a good skincare routine? If these are the questions you have been asking yourself, hopefully this post will put you at ease.

Everything You Need To Know About Skincare

Morning Routine

Cleansers come in so many different forms such as gels and foams but they all tend to work in a similar way. Your face can be in much need of a deep cleanse due to the impurities and dirt that can attach itself to your skin, even more so if you wear makeup often. It’s best to cleanse at morning and night for better effects but what you do and use is completely up to you. I’m currently loving using the Garnier Skin Active Purifying Botanical Gel Wash (what a mouthful!) which leaves my face feeling incredibly fresh. To help really work into them pores, I also use the *Magnitone Bare Faced Brush for an extra boost (review here).

Out of all skincare, toners were that biggest confusion for me. What does it do? Do I really need to bother? Well now I understand and would recommend you try some out. A toner is typically used after cleansing to remove any remaining dirt and oils that may still be lingering. Simply add some drops of toner to a cotton pad or two and wipe around your face and neck. It can be surprisingly what your cleanser may have missed and the toner has the added bonus of making your skin feel hydrated. My personal favourite has to be the *Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic which smells amazingly luxurious.

After all of that your face is probably in need for a treat and a moisturiser will do just that. To regain some hydration and smoothness, a moisturiser should be applied which will also help keep any dry patches at bay. I swear by the *Garnier Moisture Bomb for its instant hydration and silky (not tacky) texture. If you are applying moisturiser as part of your morning routine, it’s also helpful to try and use a product with a good SPF rating for extra protection against UV exposure.

Evening Routine

The evening routine works in much the same way however makeup can really change up the game. So if you barely leave the house without a full face of makeup, you will definitely need a good remover before starting the cleansing process.

Makeup Removers
Removers are an interesting subject because some argue that a simple cleanser will remove makeup regardless, but I personally like to add the extra step. I tend to use both a face makeup remover and an eye makeup remover for ease. It’s certainly easier budging tough mascara with a dedicated eye product. I have so many favourites so here is a small list of recommendations.

*Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover

*Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover

*Garnier Micellar Water

Sometimes no matter how hard you try, your skin will beg for extra attention. The attention of an exfoliator to be exact. What do they do? A good exfoliating scrub will remove the unwanted dry skin cells and create a more balanced, smoother surface. This doesn’t have to be a daily process but it’s good to do every now and then. I’ve been using the *St Ives Nourish & Smooth Oatmeal Scrub as it’s not to harsh on my sensitive skin.

Face masks
Face masks are the treats of skincare. They are not usually used as a daily product but more of a top up if you have skin imperfections such as dry patches, redness etc. Different masks help tackle different areas so it’s all down to personal needs. It also helps you feel pretty pampered when having a relaxing bath. My favourite? I’m glad you asked. It has to be the *L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Detox Mask.

Nose Strips
A weird one to add into a skincare post right? But I can’t help but praise the *Biore Nose Strips for their incredibly satisfying results. Blackheads will disappear after using these and lets be honest, sometimes your nose needs some extra attention and work.

That’s all the skincare advice I have and although I’m no doctor nor skincare guru, I hope it was atleast helpful. What products do you love using?

Every time I dig into the skincare world I feel like it’s a neverending task, and like you, toners are something I find very intriguing. The major problem over here, is to keep any sort of routine in place for more than… 1 week? hahaha
    Great post!
