Boy oh boy is it good to be back!
If you’ve been following me over on Instagram (which I totally thank you for by the way) you may have seen me mention that the last month or two has been a bit of an emotional “primeval whirl-wind” and now that I’m returning to my most positive self, I was desperate to get back to what I love most.
So whilst I’m getting back into the full swing of things I thought I would start with the first edition of my new monthly series “Monthly Makeup Minnies”. And yes I’m a little smug about the name…
Every month you can expect a fabulous little post dedicated to mini beauty products that I have taken the pleasure in testing so you don’t have to. Is that lipstick worth buying in full size even though the price point is a little too out there?
I’m here to find out, which means you can save some precious pennies before feeling disappointed with an overpriced mascara that barely touches the lashes.
You’re welcome! (in full Maui style)
Let’s get on with it shall we?
Nars Climax Mascara
Well who knew Minnie could feel so saucy when fluttering those lashes?
Let’s quickly mention the seductive branding here because even the most regal of Disney princess’s want to feel a little sexy every now and then, right? This tube of Explicit Black (yes, for real) mascara comes in classic Minnie Mouse-red, ribbed effect packaging and no I’m not making that up. It’s also incredibly lightweight and ideal to slip into your bag but hey this is a mini after all.
Having tried this particular mascara for a number of weeks I can easily say that I’d happily go the full shabang and purchase the full size Climax mascara. And by now you can imagine that this is a pretty big statement for me because I am the biggest user of waterproof mascaras, which Climax is not.
Somebody pinch me!
The volume is along the lines of Princess Anna’s morning hair if you catch my drift and it’s impressive to say the least. Nars describes this mascara as ” buildable intensity without clumping ” and I really couldn’t agree more.
Stay mini if you like but I’d definitely go all Big Hero Six on this one. £21 well spent.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel
An added bonus of that retail therapy session was that I came out with a few freebies that I had never thought to try and one of those magical gems happened to be the (you guessed it) *Anastasia Beverley Hills Clear Brow Gel.
Whether Kaa had somehow brainwashed me or not, I don’t know but I was under the illusion that once you have tried one clear brow gel, you’ve tried them all. Apparently that’s not the case.
The ABH gel product looks like something straight outta Tomorrowland due to it’s silver sleek casing and I personally live for it. To put it bluntly, it feels high-quality and that’s all I can say about that.
The applicator is your typical mascara-like wand that you would expect and the bristles are quite sturdy for easy, mess-free application. My only little Gus Gus sized complaint is that the gel doesn’t have the best scent when opening, but it’s not necessarily a deal breaker.
I mean who’s going to give your brows a sniff, anyway?
Overall the brow gel really holds the brow hairs in perfect place and helps achieve a fuller appearance. And yes, I really do enjoy it but here’s the thing.
I’ve been using this brow product for a couple of months now and admittedly I don’t have beautiful Vanellope-full brows (look it up) but this mini tube is still going strong. Would I upgrade to a full size for £23? I mean if money was flying at me like Scrooge McDuck then possibly, but for now I’m happy with the mini.
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
We all know that I’m a big fan of the Too Faced brand from their eye shadow palettes to their incredible foundations. I’m like the Flounder to their Ariel and call me a guppy but I just had to dive in and pick up their *Soleil bronzer.
Now you know me and I’ve gotta be honest, the bronzer mini is a little smaller than I imagined. “Well obviously Holly, it’s a mini!” Yeah I hear ya, but I have seen bigger minis. Just saying.
The gold encrusted compact does ooze sophistication (you know, something you could totally imagine to be on Cinderella’s vanity) and it comes with a very handy little mirror (that doesn’t talk back). It’s of course ideal for Disney travel.
The bronzer easily blends when applied and has a very subtle chocolate scent due to it’s cocoa powder infusion. Someone take me to the Main Street Confectionery asap! It has a natural matte finish and is ideal for a subtle sun-kissed glow.
My verdict? I would happily (ever after) grab a full size bronzer. It doesn’t replace my love for the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, but it is long lasting and you can easily buy it in the UK which is obviously a big win.
So, fancy an upgrade?
