It’s been nearly a year since I wrote my first Current Makeup post and considering it was one of my most popular posts of 2018, I thought it was about time I made an update. I have been exploring so many different products including some amazing buys from the US and with that, my daily go-tos have gradually changed.
I like to be a little different and start my whole routine with brows, mainly because they can be my best friend or absolute worst nightmare depending on the day. I’ve tried countless methods of making this easier and now I think I’ve cracked it (she says nervously).
I start by using a spoolie to brush my hairs downwards and use the fabulous NYX Micro Brow Pencil to outline my desired shape. I then do the same with the spoolie combing upwards and underline.
Once the brows are all brushed back into their usual position I dip a damp, small angled brush (NYX Pro Brush 18 to be specific) into the Revolution Brow Pomade and fill in my brows.
Back in with the NYX pencil for the the beginning hair strokes and I’m basically done other than a little tidy up with (you guessed it) the wonderful Nars Soft Matte Concealer and a couple of strokes of a clear brow gel.
Here’s a little tip for you.. When my brows are being stubborn and I can’t pencil in the perfect shape, I roughly fill them in and take a face wipe to make the shape I’m looking for. It’s so easy and just helps make everything look a bit more precise and even.
After a wash and a bit of moisturiser (god knows I need it) and my brows are complete, I then dive into a bit of primer.
Right now I’m loving the Hard Candy Pore-Defence Primer Serum but considering that’s a little difficult to buy from the UK, I also tend to use the NYX Angel Veil primer which has a light and silky texture and helps create an even base.
Do you conceal before or after? I have heard 50/50 of do’s and don’t. I personally conceal after foundation but I’m still curious.
No matter what foundation, my application process stays the same (whether that’s good or bad I don’t know). I use the Morphe M439 to apply and do a little buffing then go in with my trusty Beauty Blender. There’s nothing quite like a Beauty Blender.
I don’t know about you but I find something really satisfying about the concealer process. Perhaps because it makes me look a little less dead in the morning.
What bags? And the two I use to help combat these “nonexistent” bags are the Tarte Shape Tape or the Too faced Born This Way Concealer. Both blends beautifully and help brighten my complexion.
I add a touch under my eyes, across my T-zone and a dab on my chin for a little extra coverage. Of course all assisted with a damp Beauty Blender.
Here’s the messy part so thank goodness it’s usually translucent! I like to dip my Blender into a setting powder like the Revolution Bake and Finish powder and slap it on under my eyes.
I then set it aside while I wait for this to “bake” and work my way onto bronzer.
Well bronzer has been my favourite product lately and to think I once steered clear of bronzing for months to avoid the muddy-lines look. Boy am I glad I started using it again.
I mentioned not so long ago that I haven’t touched my once loved Hoola since returning from the US and that’s all because I fell in love with the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. It’s pretty impressive and smells so bloody good, but either is a great product to use.
Just a little side note here.. my bronzer has never looked so bloody impressive since using the *Morphe E48 and no I’m not sponsored by Morphe. Wouldn’t that be the dream?
Now let’s talk blush because I’ve had my distance from blush for awhile and now I’ve recently started dabbling with it again. Particularly the Milani Powder Blushes but Zoeva have some fab blush palettes too.
All I can say about my blush methods is that I use a little to build it up gradually and hope for the best. So far no clown moments.
And after all of this I head on back to finishing powder by dusting under my eyes and give a quick all over, particularly concentrating on the T-zone.
I argue that this is the most creative part and this girl has a lot of palettes. The wonderful Urban Decay Eden Eye Primer comes out and taps onto the lid and away we go with a light transition shade and the more exciting shades from the outer corner. Then I blend, blend and blend some more.
Favourite palette I hear you ask? Well there’s a lot at the moment but I’m getting good use out of the Kat Von D Shade And Light palette, the Urban Decay Born To Run palette and the Tarte Toasted palette. All very dreamy.
So I tend to skip eyeliner because it’s usually more effort than I can be bothered with and I still occasionally suffer with a disaster from time to time. Onto mascara instead.
Now if you have been reading this blog for awhile so you know all too well what mascara I have been using. Sorry if it’s getting old but for all you hopefully new subscribers (buttons right there on the right) I have been loving the Too faced Better Than Sex Waterproof mascara for months and months. There’s nothing like it for curl and volume.
In my eyes, no look is complete without a bit of lipstick and it’s a moment I really think about. Do I fancy a nude? Will a red be too dramatic with this outfit? Shall I use a liquid lipstick? It goes on but still I love it.
I also now tend to line my lips first which is something I was really lazy with before. Is it essential? To be honest I don’t think so, but I do see a subtle difference and I like it.
I’m living for the Huda lip pencils and matte liquid lips right now, but I do still show some love to the Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipsticks too. I could never stay away from these for too long. Those bad boys never budge!
Don’t ask me why I do this last because I have no clue. It’s just become my routine. Highlighters are yet another product I found slightly terrifying.
I have been known to leave the house with a blinding straight line on my cheekbones once or twice and it’s not pretty (although it gave everyone else a laugh I’m sure). But, when done right (usually with the help of a *Morphe M441) it really sets they look. Wouldn’t you agree?
Revolution have some incredible highlighters right now and if your in the US, Physicians Formula have a dreamy range too.
Set and Go!
A few spritz of the famous Urban Decay All Nighter spray and I’m off and ready to take the day by storm. This look is set for a lifetime.
